How to Use
Coverage: Approximately 80-100 square feet per liter depending on wood type, porosity and application method. For the 100ml can, coverage is approximately 8-10 square feet per can. Actual coverage may vary based on wood condition and thickness of application.
Safety Precautions: Although Termiguard is eco-friendly and non-toxic, always use in well-ventilated areas. Avoid direct contact with eyes. If eye contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with clean water. Keep away from children during application. Keep away from food products and do not spray on edible items. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
Surface Preparation: For best results, apply Termiguard on raw, untreated, unpolished or unpainted wood surfaces where maximum penetration can be achieved. If treating finished or polished furniture, ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dust, wax, oil, grease or any coatings that may prevent proper absorption. For wood with existing termite or borer infestation, remove loose wood debris and clean out damaged areas before application.
Direct Application Method: Shake the can well before use. Open the can carefully. Using a clean paintbrush, apply Termiguard generously and uniformly on all wooden surfaces including joints, corners, edges, crevices and hard-to-reach areas where termites typically hide. Ensure thorough coverage, paying special attention to end grains, cuts, joints and any areas where wood meets the ground or masonry. Allow the wood to absorb the solution completely.
Spray Application Method: The 100ml can packaging often comes with a spray nozzle for convenient application. Simply spray the solution evenly on the wooden surface from a distance of 15-20 cm, ensuring complete coverage. The spray method is particularly useful for treating intricate carvings, decorative pieces, corners, vertical surfaces and areas that are difficult to reach with a brush. Spray until the surface is thoroughly wet.
For New Wooden Furniture & Articles: Apply one generous coat of Termiguard on all wooden surfaces before polishing, painting or finishing. This creates a protective barrier that prevents future termite and borer attacks. Pay extra attention to joints, end grains and areas that will be in contact with walls or floors. Allow the wood to dry completely for 6-8 hours before applying any finish.
For Existing Infested Furniture: If treating wooden furniture or articles already showing signs of termite or borer damage (holes, powder, weakened wood), apply Termiguard liberally to all affected areas. For visible holes and tunnels, inject or pour Termiguard directly into the openings using the applicator or a syringe to ensure the solution reaches deep inside where termites are actively feeding. Apply a second coat after the first has dried for comprehensive treatment.
Drying Time: After application, allow the treated wood to dry naturally in a well-ventilated area for 6-8 hours before applying polish, paint, varnish or any other finish. In humid conditions or during monsoon season, drying time may extend to 12-24 hours. The wood should be completely dry before applying any coating or using the furniture.
Mixing with Oil-Based Paints & Primers: Termiguard can be mixed with oil-based paints and primers in the ratio of 2 parts Termiguard to 100 parts paint/primer to provide additional termite protection to painted wooden surfaces. Mix thoroughly before application. This method is particularly useful for exterior wooden structures, doors, windows and fences. Do not mix with water-based or acrylic paints.
Application Frequency: For new furniture and preventive treatment, a single thorough application provides protection for several years. For existing infestations, apply 2-3 coats with adequate drying time between coats. For outdoor wooden structures or furniture in high-risk termite areas, reapply Termiguard every 3-5 years for continued protection, especially after refinishing or repainting.
Storage of Furniture During Treatment: While treating furniture, keep items in a well-ventilated area away from children and pets. After treatment and complete drying, the furniture is completely safe to use. The dried preservative leaves no residue and does not emit any odors or fumes.
Additional Uses: Termiguard can also be used on cloth, yarn and textiles when in storage to protect from termites and borers. Suitable for preservation and protection of old books, documents, records and paper materials in libraries, offices and archives from termite and silverfish damage.
